Sacramento Farm Day
Join us as we introduce 1,000 students to agriculture!
According to a recent survey by the Innovation Center of U.S. Dairy, 30% of California's urban 4th-, 5th-, and 6th-graders didn't know that cheese is made from milk, 40% didn't know that hamburgers come from cows, and over half didn't know onions and lettuce were plants. This example is an insight to the disconnect students experience between their lives and where their food and fiber come from. The Sacramento Farm Day is designed to address this challenge.
This will be a fun, engaging, and educational day designed to create a farm experience that many students would typically not be exposed to! 1,000+ students, grades 4-6, from the greater Sacramento Region in predominantly low-income areas will participant in the Farm Day giving them a positive, empowering agricultural experience. Students will rotate through 8+ stations with a special emphasis on the 5 F's of agriculture – Food, Fiber, Flowers, Forestry and Fuel. The day will include a trip through a farmers market, guest speakers, presentations and a Farm-to-Fork lunch. Students and teachers will leave with bags, take-aways, and other resources so they can continue to LearnAboutAg® after the event.
